True2Blue
it sounds like a old school alarm clock with ball bearings that hit a bell but dampened like it is going off and your touching the bell so its not so intense.. i believe its from the lift stressing the linkage cause its not like that right away and when i get on it my 4HI light flickers.. before i start bending and adjusting things anyone know exactly what this is? the gear oil is fine. it shifts fine... again you can hear it at a constant while throttle is applied. once i let off its super faint to no sound GD? you seem to be my best source... Turbone
Sounds like a diff problem. It might be getting stressed from the lift, how many miles on it? Does it shift ok?
True2Blue
im not quite sure on the miles the rig says 250XXX and it runs awesome... its kinda boggling. cause it fades in and out. im gonna check it again. (fluids and whatnot)
mcgus1
I'd be interested in knowing what that sound is. I've got the same thing in my un-modded '89 GL.
mcbrat
I had a similar noise in a 4 speed d/R after I started losing the synchro keys... was not lift related, just wear related, and if it's the original 250k+ trans, I'd suspect it... could be stress related, but not from the lift, but the larger tires and stuff you can do because the lift is on
True2Blue
its low on gear oil.. last time i checked it was on a slope. i got under the car and no its all internal. someone said axels.. Nope it does it at a stop. it seems to be in the middle-ish back of the tranny (skinny part) on the bottom (of course id say that, thats where my head was..) but i felt it as well i took a vid it will be posted here in a few minutes. if this is a bad tranny i guess when i do my clutch ill swap out the tranny as well:rolleyes: i was just about to order bushings too... True2Blue
so i was showing gear slop and i took the vid inside cause the exhaust was too loud to hear the ringing from underneath the ru
True2Blue
FIXED IT!! it was just low on gear oil.. when i checked it the first time i was on a hill with the nose up the slope and i got nothing on the dip stick. i checked it on the flat ground and it registered on the dip stick so i was thinking it had enough to register on the dip stick so what else could be making the noise, totally ruling out that lack of 80/90 would cause it to ring... well i added a whole bottle and it register at full on level ground i started it up and there not even a hint of ringing goin on down there.. i revved it up quite a bit 6k and nothing.. now a road test... GeneralDisorder
All the bushings are availible through the dealer. That would be the best (and probably only) source. GD
True2Blue
Its back... On and off but its way more quiet than before... So im gonna buy a new one when i get a 2.2 swap
GeneralDisorder
Probably input shaft bearing wear. It's relatively easy to tear it down and replace the bearings. GD
