Indrid cold
84 Brat, stock but with a 5-spd & disc rear brakes: Figure this was as good as any place to put it, sorry no pics as camera left at home. Saturday I threw my fishing poles and 13 yr. old daughter in the Brat and we headed for the trout ponds 2 hrs away up in Tucanon area. (Mountains with pine trees.) sucks but I basicly live in a desert, sagebrush area and nearest pine tree are 2 hrs away in any direction. Getting close to the fishing hole we took the "short cut" which is a steep gravel road but maintained (means it gets graded once or twice a year) ...kind of. Easing it into 4 high on the down side saved the use of the breaks and help keep control do to the dreaded washpan ruts that can make you loose control. My brother in law totalled his pick-up and 3 months off work do too them.... alcohal might have helped.. but miles from no where... it is a bad spot to have problems. We caught up with my sister and her husband turkey hunting along the river. My daughter caught 3 trout and had a good time enjoying the smell of pine and seeing critters in the wild. We fished till a storm moved overhead follwed with pounding rain and lightening and thunder that followed instantly with every flash. Sitting in the Brat my daughter was very concerned. It is a bit different view when you can look UP through the Brats sun roof and see the flash and towering pines sway over head. With rain coming down we headed back to my sisters camp and we stopped to pick up a hunter that was 2 miles from camp and dropped him off... he had to ride in the back but he was greatful. We called it a day and headed back up and over the steep grade in the rain with deer flashing by in our headlights. With the weather and deer count I took my time heading down into the valley and on hwy back home. This was one of those adventures that again, the Brat earned its keep. We were warm and dry with fish in the ice chest.... My warm and fuzzy moment. Edited April 19, 2010 by Indrid cold
