BoxersOnly
I was cleaning my valve covers before I put them back on the EJ25, and noticed that one of the covers was damaged. It looks kinda weird, doesn't look like it got hit by something.... maybe heat ? Take a look. They still look ok from the inside, so I'll still use them. I actually noticed it when I ran a rag over the cover and it got caught by the edges of the cracks... Rob.
Dr Farco
Mine are the same way! I'd like to know also. Poor castings or just lousy material? They are poor in quality IMO. Dr. F
lefty42303
I am sure it is from the casting. I've seen this on lots of aluminiun castings. No worries. Lefty42303
Hondasucks
yeah they're just casting marks. Nothing to worry about, but if they really bother you, you can sand them off and polish the covers. Over on the Camaro board Russ was showing me an article on polishign aluminum. I dunno where it is but you could find it @ http://www.thirdgen.org
CROSSTBOLT
What *it* is, is flashing or ridges in the die-cast part caused by cracks in the dies used in the casting process. All die-casting dies get this was somewhere sooner or later because of the heat and pressure of the die-casting process. No problem in the parts generally. Sand 'em down & polish or bead blast 'em! You could even paint them with that black crackle paint to put the BMW's to shame! Karl
