Hey guys..

On my '90 Legacy wagon MT, I believe the starter is going out.

When I turn the key to the start position I can hear the starter engage but it's very hard to turn over...It's not a slow turnover, it just takes like 4-6-10 times of trying to get it started.

Here's what I've ruled out as being the problem:

The car runs perfectly when it gets started, no stumble, no hesitation, no excessive gas consumption, so I crossed the fuel injection system off the list. All the injectors are pulsing properly by the way.

I just replaced the battery and tested the alternator and they are both fine.

Hmmmmmmmm

Can you push it to start it?

It could be the starter switch or solinoid. Try bridging the big wire on the starter and the small wire with the clip on it with a nice insulated screwdriver or something. Have the car in NEUTRAL and with the key on the ON position. If it is a switch problem or a connection other than the battery it'll start right up. Oh yeah watch for the sparks.
