johnceggleston
Hello, Can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell if the engine and vin match, like did this engine come in this car from factory? Thanks, Roger at least some of the years, late 90s, have the vin etched on the bell housing, passenger side, low, where it meets the trans. but i have only seen them with the engine out of the car and the numbers are small. Fairtax4me
Generally the last 8 digits or so of the VIN are scribed or stamped on the engine somewhere. Some car makers put the whole thing, some just the assembly number at the end. Always seems to be very hard to read though. I remember seeing a section in the FSM for my 96 that showed where the VIN stamp is. I don't recall exactly where but it was on the bell housing i'm pretty sure. Mike104
Haynes (Legacy 1990 thru 1999) says that the engine identification number (not sure if that's the same as the VIN?) is on the top of the engine block near the transaxle (transmission). Not sure if that helps much.
