Twitch de la Brat
I found a 70's wagon out in P&S today, and it had an engine in it that I didn't recognize. I wasn't able to get a picture of it, but it was a flat four, had a round air cleaner top mount starter, and I couldn't find the typical stamp on the front of the engine. It was also small compared to the typical EA81. Is it possible to be a slim case EA71? Or maybe an EA63 like I thought at first? I'm going to try to go back tomorrow and get the parts I was there for originally, but while I'm there I'll take a couple pics and get more details. Kostamojen
Wagons are usually EA71's, but it could be an EA63, and it will be an EA63 for sure if its pre-76. However EA63's look pretty much the same as gen 1 EA71's and they are pretty much the same size too.
Twitch de la Brat
Are there any specific designs or things I should be looking for? I'm going to clean the grime off the front of the engine and see if I can find any sort of marking. Twitch
The Beast I Drive
The engine stamp on the ea63 and older motors is on the back of the block near the oil filler tube. Also the intake will have almost no vacuum hoses or emissions control equipment, and typically will have a single barel carb. -Bill
moosens
California EA63 would have EGR and a couple of hoses on the intake. Does it have exhaust ports coming out from the front and rear of the heads?
Twitch de la Brat
I got to look at it today and its just a slim case EA71. It has a double barrel carb with the exhaust ports dropping out from the bottom of the engine. I had to scrape some gunk off the stamp, but it indeed said EA71. The wagon is a 79. Thanks for the help. Twitch
