Transfer clutches and Duty C interchangeable between XT6 and EJ?

Featured Replies

Are the 4EAT clutches and rear transfer set up the same in an XT6 and EJ trans? Wondering if I should keep the tail housing, clutches, Duty C off this XT6 trans before I scrap it?

I believe they "fit" but they are not the same. Something about the EJ stuff being a little bigger, but not really enough to make THAT much of a difference. But they should swap none-the-less.

When I did my paddle shifters and researching for them, one of the things that I read was that presslab had to adjust his shims because the TCU was expecting something different when it came to the AWD, something like that. I haven't had to do anything to mine though, so it can't be too much of a difference between the EA and the EJ stuff. But my TCU is custom, so take that for what it's worth

I believe Gloyale has taken both apart, I know he swapped an EA 4EAT for an EJ 4EAT and didn't have any problems, but that was the whole trans...

Thanks! Right on, I know someone that swapped an EJ trans into an EA as well, forgot about that.

Trans is already out so I'll remove the rear extension housing and hold onto it in case I ever need it.

That's what I would do! Never know when you will need that stuff
Hey, don't tempt me that's the thought that has kept this trans in my garage for 5 years! I'm trying to move some large items and make some space, I'm probably getting rid of it.

Duty C is the same.

The extension housing and transfer clutch pack is slightly different. EJ mounts won't fit onto the EA tails and vice versa

they can be interchanged, but you have to use the whole tailsection, hub, and clutch set from EA or EJ.....they don't mix.

Great, I'll keep the entire rear then as a unit. So to put it on an EJ trans means it won't bolt up right to the car because the mounts differ?

Thanks again Gloyale, now I can ditch this trans taking up space.

Yeah, I had to modify my EA crossmember to accept the EJ mount block.

If drilling a hole counts as modifying:rolleyes:
