zdriver123
So, I'm looking to purchase a 1987 RX and i was looking for suggestions on possibly modifing the engine for just a little more power. I know full and well that these engines have their share of problems and that the platform is pretty much dead, but i enjoy the car and engine just the same. I've heard about adding a WRX intercooler and turbo, New exhausts, and intakes. I was curious about any fuel system and ignition system modifications that work as well. Any thoughts? idosubaru
Megasquirt is probably the only option unless you want to burn serious cash. It's already been done and there's an entire webpage dedicated to MS on an RX, check it out. Fuel system will require some more work and effort. You can ghetto-modify it with a single injector in the intake manifold to kick in at a certain time, like high loads only when the stock system can't keep up. that's the easy way. that's been done before too. Upgrading injectors has been discussed and probably tried - try searching for that and you should get some reads.

Steve W.
That should make you a nice ride. I'm runnin' a EA82T in my GL10 wagon. I've hogged & polished the heads, match ported everything, no cats, 2.5" glass pack, top mount IC, boost active press. reg., hot coil, and on. Bigger turbo & 2.5" exh. is next. I digress, I'm running 380cc injectors,&, by far the best performance up grade yet. I'd been runnin' fuel pres. @ 45-55 psi, & was still badly lean. Now, I've dropped the pres. to 25-35, (about stock) & an amazing transformation. Never a lean out problem since, runs a little rich till oper. temp., then stays in the high end of stoic. You mite' need to stick with a smaller flow rate, 280cc or that range, with no other mods. Seems like stock is around 180cc. Get a $50-70 air-fuel gauge, it'll give you some idea where your runnin'. I know some of these guys like to push the high end instruments, but I never seem to have a spare 3 or 4 hundred around to offer up to the performance gods. This little cheapy keeps me from smokin' it, running as lean as I did before I got the gauge. Check with Osidetiger.com., Charley will make you up any flow you want. Their a simple bolt in, the set of four comes with, flow charts, polished rebuilt injectors, new stainless hardware, hoses & clamps,o rings & spacer blocks, push on connectors, even solder & shrink tube. I'm really pleased with the set up. To my door for just under $200. Have fun with your new toy, S.
