kybishop
My 1986 GL wagon sometime has a smell of gas fumes around the back where the tank is, usually after driving. I crawled under and did not see any wet spots or anything obvious. Before I go tearing into it too much, taking the tank down and all...is there a weak link or typical area where these develope leaks? Thanks, KB
Subarule
Fresh gas or exhausted gas fumes?
kybishop
Fresh gas. I need to check up around the fuel filter better for starters. I was wondering if there was a common place where these could develop leaks. Thanks.
Yo'J
I'd stick my head up there and look for leaks while running, it might show itself. You say back of the car? Do they salt the roads there? Germany, MI. Wa. Il. Ky? Frankforts everywhere!
eVIL_NTT
I think there may be an evap tank back there to check as well. I had the same gas fume smell and that was the culprit.
DaveAP
My '78 brat had that problem. I noticed a wet spot in the bottom of the rear quarter fender. I opened the panel and could see a small tube wet with gas. I just allowed it to vent to the outside. Probably not the professional way, but the smell went away. dp
94Loyale
Also, check and make sure your fill tube isn't rotted. I had that on two of my Loyales.
kybishop
Thanks everyone. That gives me several things I need to check and great information. I do appreciate it. It is Frankfort Kentucky, bourbon capital of the world. And yes, they do salt the roads. The fill tube looked good but will give it all closer inspection. My vent tube on my old 78 Ramcharger was the culprit for the smell of fresh fumes on it.
