mcbrat
have a leaking injector on 84 turbo brat.... will an ea82 MPFI injector work? I don't think there are any at my local JY though.....
carfreak85
I asked about injectors a long time ago and the consensus was that EA82T and EA81T injectors are identical. I wouldn't go with MPFI just because they are lower flowing... probably
Stupidru
Mick, A regular non-turbo xt has same injectors, I believe their is a few more applications, but I can't remember which ones. Go to partsamerica.com & cross part #'s. Subaru still has them in-stock but there really expensive, if I remember correctly they were like, $125ish. If you have trouble finding some, I know of an old NA XT in a friends JY, but I'd have to pull it myself. That I will not do until weather breaks. These injectors are (all-in-one) the hoses are permanently connected to the injector & its a PITA to get hoses off the fuel rail being careful not to slit hose. BTW whats wrong with your injectors? ShawnW
I mailed him an injector today.
mcbrat
it's leaking badly between the permanently attached hose and the injector.
mcbrat
okay, got the injectors off the turbo brat, and they are a higher flowing injector than what Shawn sent me. look identical, except the nozzle on mine is black with a larger opening, and Shawns were white w/small opening. also, on mine, the small hose piece was not an integral part of the injector. the injector has a normal barbed fitting on it. my hose just appears to have been bad, plus the holder was broken and the rubber ring around the injector was torn. SPFI is a completely different beast. only one injector, and its mounted inside the throttle body
baccaruda
aaah. so he needs to go to pull n save and dissect an SPFI throttle body. thanks

Stupidru
I have the white in my ea81t, Man...no wonder your having fuel issues Mick. These turbo pushrod engines are totally different beasts, ya know?
mcbrat
yeah I was thinking the same thing.... (fuel consumption)
GLCraig
from what i've read about Bosch injectors, it's really the color of the top of the injectors that identifies the flow rate. Then again maybe I missread the article.
mcbrat
rats! I got everything back together, and it appears the injector must have an internal crack, so looks like I'm gonna need a black tip injector....
mcbrat
one more odd thing... when I was trying to start it, it at first acted like it lost compression through the injector hole too.... hmmm. could it be "blowing" the fuel back through the port so it looks like a leaking injector? I would think then that it wouldn't be firing on that cyl, but it doesn't seem to be missing..... hmmmm......
Stupidru
There is an o-ring in the fuel port on the head, could that be dry rotted? Subaru still has the o-rings in stock.
mcbrat
I'll be checking that as well.....
mcbrat
thanks to Skip for some info. has led me to this, but still researching.... the one on the left is a RX7 injector, the one on the right, a Z car... http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/7/web/403000-403999/403158_41_full.jpg also found on another site: "Repaired fuel leak under maniford (injector o-rings). new injector o-rings, injector grommets, injector seals"

mcbrat
I'm gonna pick up new O rings tomorrow hopefully, but not sure when I will get to it, as I'm trying to get some stuff done on my red brat first....
mcbrat
seal kits should be in Friday. I got a chance to watch it today while it was running, and I could actually see the fuel coming up from the bottom side of the injector.... mcbrat
finally done! after the posts here, and more research, and such, as Craig mentioned, the color of the tops identifies the flow rate, and the tops are identical to the injectors I got from shawn. my pics I took were blurry, but upon closer inspection, it looks like the pintles are the same size, just the hole in the little cap thats bigger. so I put in one of Shawns injectors with the new seals, and all is well. I also took the chance to clean/check the plugs, and put some new Accel wires on. took it out for a spin. runs good, and no fuel smell!!! yay!
