slp950
Just bought a '83 GL, and it has been sitting for 4-5 yrs. New battery, fresh gas, a can of starter fluid and an hour later its running and driving fine. However on the way home after about 2 miles or so it starts sputtering and mis-firing and then dies. Under the hood I notice oil coming out of the intake box, take the cover off and its FULL of oil. I got out as much as I could, waited about ten minutes and it fires right up so I keep driving. Repeated this process 5 times until it finally makes it home. What gives? Is this some kind of PCV issue? It seems as though under load, like accelerating or going up hills, it just sucks oil out of the valvetrain. Idling and driving around the yard present no problems. I'm a newb to working on these things! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
GeneralDisorder
Change the PCV valve and filter (only buy at the dealer), and clean all the lines and fittings. The system is clogged. GD

Phizinza
When the filters get clogged they draw air up from the crank case vents, then fill the filter with oil by doing so. Sometimes if you just replace the air filter its all good.
idosubaru
PCV first comes to mind to me too but i'm not familiar with these engines or carbs. having sat for awhile is there any chance of an obstruction in the intake like a mouse nest or something? PCV first comes to mind to me too but i'm not familiar with these engines or carbs. having sat for awhile is there any chance of an obstruction in the intake like a mouse nest or something? Ironically there was a mouse nest in the spare tire area plus a live mouse in the vent area under the windshield wipers but no the intake itself was fine. PCV makes the most sense to me and hopefully I will have the time to take care of it soon and see if that takes care of it.
