On my 95 Impreza, 2.2L, the ac starts with a loud screech.... seems to work okay after that.... still cools the air and the front of the compressor clearly turns. The screech is loud enough for my daughter to hear over her music.... which means it is so loud that most of you have probably heard it now and again! So.... compressor or compressor clutch? Its probably glazed from age and use.Belt is like 7 bucks. cheap fix. this was my first thought as well - also the cheapest & easiest to try first. make sure the new belt is properly tensioned after install & it should be good to go. eppoh Posted May 26, 2010 Share Posted May 26, 2010 Be sure and check that belt AND the tensioner soon. The tensioner on mine broke, and threw the belt into the timing belt through the cover.
