Stupid Check Engine Q? OBD1

Recommended Posts

Hi ALL!

I've been driving my '92 Loyale around now for over a year with the stupid check engine light on! I know that it runs well for 204K miles, not overheating, etc..! I went to the page below and found out that I have OBD1 old computer system! I found out that I can hook the 2 green wires in the engine compartment, next to the master cylinder, hook them up....then it goes away!..... Until of course, I unplug them!! Then It comes back! What happens IF I drive around with these 2 green things plugged IN!!?? Will car die of some horrible death!?? Yep, I could fix whatever the problem is....but I don't really know what the problem is!! From what I've been told the check engine light IS a problem with these old Loyales, it only pertains to emisions. and there are ALOT of sensores that go wrong!!! ANY ideas!??

STed, the green connectors are called "test mode" connectors.

You probably want the white ones near by, these are called the "read memory" connectors.

The error code will be flashed on the 02 monitor LED.

This LED is on the end of the ECU which is mounted under the steering column.

To see it, lower the trim panel that is above your knees when driving. In the jungle of wires will be the ECU (goldish colored box)

The end facing you will have the LED.

Here are links to a couple of places with charts and instructions.

(note: please do not be confused at the title on the second link, it is for OBD i cars.

And for an excellent write up by Al S. check this link

SPFI code check

Hope this helps
