93 Impreza 5 Sp FWD Trans Interchange?

Recommended Posts

Is the 90-94 Legacy 2.2 a alternate for the trans in a 1.8 Impreza? I know the motors will bolt up, but I didn't know about the flywheel and trans input shaft.

Thanks, Larry

yes, auto trans anyway, pretty sure the 5 speed is the same. subaru isn't large enough to have a different trans for the limpreza. would this be a FWD 5 speed? then no rear diff to match.

Yes, I just wasn't sure on the Flywheel as I know they use different size clutch disk.

it looks like you're right, different flywheel. it isn't shown as being used on the legacy.

although this link shows the impreza ej18 AWD shared a flywheel with the ej22, so i don't know. (click on usage for each)

Now are you replacing the engine or the transmission?

If you're replacing the transmission, then you'll need new axles, as the FWD 93

Impreza axles are 23 spline rather than 25 like the majority of the EJ.

As for the engine, I believe you can use everything that's already on your

current engine and be just fine.
