quebechatch
can someone help me? I want to witch subaru tranny that has the slowest low range, because I'm fitting some 235-75-r15 tires on my 83 hatch they are 29'' high i'm afraid that it's going to be too fast for the trails? should I go for a remote transfer case from a samourai or nissan? MilesFox
the 80-82 trannies have a lower first and secong gear. somewhere there is a chart floating around, try a search for gear ratio or transfer case
bushbasher
80-82 has lower 1st gear but a 5spd dual range has a lower low range, 1.56:1 vs 1.45:1. 29s are going to be drivable but not great... Whether they are too fast for the trail depends on the trail, is it mountanous or flat? For flat Id say good enough. T-case mod is a lot of work but go for it if you got the time money and tools
quebechatch
Thanks Bushbasher for your answers. Do you know if there's a site on internet where they show and explain how t-case conversion is done. If t-case conversion is too much work, or compromise ground clearance too much, i guess I'm going to sell my 235, and buy 215 instead they have a diameter of 27.8''. good day!
