Durania
95 Outback, 158k. Stops great, no fluid leaking anywhere. If I stand on the brake pedal at startup it will be fine then about 3 seconds later it sink down lower. I did get an ABS light come on earlier where I had an idiot abruptly stop in front of me. The light went off when I restarted the car. Brakes needing bled?

Markus56
The seals in the master cylinder are leaking. you need to replace it.
nipper
Master cylinder is bad. Pressure is bypassing the seals so your pedal sinks. Fix it asap.
Durania
Got it. Thank you.

Durania
Just to ask a few last questions for my sake. Doesn't sound like air in the lines or ABS unit? How do I go about changing this thing?
Durania
Also did the brake booster check. About the 4th pump the brake pedal was very firm and sank a little lower once the car was started. Least that ain't broke.
nipper
Just to ask a few last questions for my sake. Doesn't sound like air in the lines or ABS unit? How do I go about changing this thing? It is very simple. Look at a haynes manual, but it is very straight forward. Use line wrenches for the brake lines. No need to mess with the ABS and it is all startight forward to bleed. Durania
Gonna try and run a town over and pick one up in the morning. This look good? I have zero experience with master cylinders, have replaced both master and slaves on a clutch before though. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Brake-Master-Cylinder-Cardone_18350084-P_230_R|GRPBRHYAMS_727891357___
NoahDL88
before you get a new master cylinder, double check your ABS codes, my 94, lego will sometimes sink a bit when i'm at a stop, but it will throw a code and the pedal feels as if the ABS is kicking in. A quick reset of the ignition and its good to go again.
Durania
No more ABS codes since the other night. I am assuming they are linked. The light came on right after I had to get on the brakes really hard but went off when I restarted the car.
