Help! No spark!

Recommended Posts

I was driving to Longbeach today and as I pulled up to a stop light the engine promptly shut off. I pulled off to the side of the road and and went straight for the coil. I had my girlfriend crank the motor as i held the coil wire just off the coil to check for spark. No spark. So I got the multimeter out and started testing. I measured roughly 10 volts at the negative terminal of the coil and at the positive terminal. I then measured the output where the coil wire plugs into the coil and measured about 2.2 volts. Then I measured the resistance across the coil and got the suspected 1.3-1.4 ohms. I then checked the fuse box and found no blown fuses. So i've come to the conclusion that the problem is before the coil in the ignition system. I'm not sure where to check? The ignition switch maybe? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

The volt readings you got sound fairly normal to me. If the rotor in the disty is spinning ok then you need to check the CAS in the disty. By placing a test light probe on the negative side of the coil you should see light pulses when cranking the engine. If you don't then the CAS inside the disty is bad.

Check to see if the rotor is turning when cranking the engine. More than likely you now have a broken timing belt.

Yep. Broken belt.:banghead: thanks for all the help.

I was told that the timing belts had just been done when I purchased this car. I believe the guy still however, I think thats all he replaced. The right side tensioner is to blame for this. The bearing seized up and melted the belt. I did not here anything come from the engine that sounded fatal but i'm not sure if you would??

This is the kit I ordered. Has anyone ordered from them? If so how's the quality? Thanks for any input.
