4WD Fuel tank removal with Diff intact?

Having a fun time getting my fuel tank off my 86' GL-10 Turbo for cleaning. Is there a way to take it off without taking out the rear differential? Could I possibly support the differential with a jack and just take out the mounting bar? Or slowly lower the diff with the jack, just enough to slide the tank by?

Just pull the diff. it takes like 15 mins and 4 tools

 

10mm for the drive shaft

17mm for the front diff hanger

19mm for the mustash bar

punch and hammer for the axles...

 

is there a reason you dont want to pull the rear diff?

Honestly, I've never done it before. Also, don't have a punch. I've punched out the front knuckles to repack the bearing in the past, and that was quite a feat with limited tools.

 

Also, I'm pretty much expecting something to break/go wrong as it seems like every time I touch a bolt on this car something happens...

Rear differential has a slow leak as well..

 

I'd like to say I'm looking to actually fix this car, but I'm not. I just want to drive it for the next few months if I can. I'm not really set up to do this well.

I've pulled a gastank from a 4wd EA82 wagon before without removing the diff all the way. I left it connected to the axles, dropped the hanger and mustache bar and removed the bolts for the driveline. For removing the tank itself, there's a plate behind the passenger side rear wheel that covers the fuel filler neck and after removing the plate, you can access the hose clamps much better.
