Trailer wiring

Recommended Posts

So I've searched the net and can't find what I'm looking for. I need to wire up a harness for a trailer. Obviously since subaru has a separate blinker I need an adapter. I found this online. Which is exactly what I want. But I don't want to buy something like that. I have a box of relays, wires, and I have a soldering iron and I'm not afraid to use it. Just wondering if anyone has a diagram on how to make one. I can't get my mind wrapped around an efficient way to do it.

What I wired up made the trailer lights blink opposite to the car lights and used an ungodly amount of relays.....

Thanks for your input

I just hooked up trailer wiring on my 88 GL-10. It was pretty easy, one wire goes to the left taillight and the others all go to the right one. I used an adapter, $14 from Wally World.

I pulled the pins from the connector and piggybacked mine by soldering them on to the pins. Then I pushed both wires back into the connector.

You'll need an XOR gate function; it won't be very easy to make. Here is some food for thought - on the bottom left is a schematic from a patent:

Thank you very much!!!

That's exactly what I was looking for. I have gone through most the logic he's gone through there with the basic wiring, but was hoping there was a more simple way to do it than that. Maybe I'll build something like that though. Thanks again for that page
