84GLPROJECT
Hello everyone I was wondering if there is anyplace/anyone who could help me find parts for my '79 Brat, mostly simple things, mainly cv boots/joints, and an exhaust system from the headers back. I'm no technician but I believe that is what I need. Please get back to me as soon as possible I need to get this car running. Thank You, Shane
biffanyus
Ebay is a good start for parts. And dont forget to post some pics of your brat... Also try Carpartsdiscount.com heres a link for the 79 brat http://www.carpartsdiscount.com/auto/parts/79/subaru/brat/models.html Edited July 20, 2010 by biffanyus
84GLPROJECT
I will post pics soon of what is wrong and what I need, but I was wondering if I could swap my EA71 for an EA81 but keep the original transmission or would I have to take the EA81 transmission as well?? Twitch de la Brat
I will post pics soon of what is wrong and what I need, but I was wondering if I could swap my EA71 for an EA81 but keep the original transmission or would I have to take the EA81 transmission as well?? You would need the EA81 tranny as well, as no EA81's come with a top mount starter. Unless you got a "fat case" EA71 that has the side mount starter. 84GLPROJECT
How would I check that?? (sorry like I said I'm not very mechanically inclined....yet)
Twitch de la Brat
How would I check that?? (sorry like I said I'm not very mechanically inclined....yet) I'm not sure if I'm correct on that, but the easiest way to check is to pop your hood, remove the spare tire, and look down at the driver's side of the transmission. There should be a black cylinder sticking out from the upper edge from the transmission, if its a side mount starter. If its a top mount, as it most likely is, it should be sticking out from the very top of the transmission. Twitch
84GLPROJECT
seeing as that will probably be to much work for someone with my knowledge, I was wondering if anyone just had a '79 brat exhaust manifold?

talldude
I've got most of the exhaust system from my '78 BRAT with a few extra pieces. I'm doing a drivetrain conversion so I won't need it. You're welcome to come look. It would be cheap so I can clean up my yard! Pollock Pines, just up the road from Placerville.
