Dodge Ram Longbed shortening????

Looking to pick up a 1981 Dodge Ram Crew-Cab with a longbed as a project. I was wondering if anyone knows how or if I can shorten the bed some? I have seen the toyota truck guys shorten their trail rigs beds and was wondering if I could apply that same idea to the ram. I am not looking to touch the chassis at all unless its after the leafs. This would be a first time venture and I wanted to get some expert opinions first. Why pick up an '81 crew cab for a project? It would definately be a very unique truck after I was done and it would still be practical to take the family around to shows.

Actually, you can!

 

Step one, remove tail-lights, fuel lines, anything aft of where you want to cut.

 

Step two, fire up your sawsall.

 

Step three, go to town!

I would say buy a short bed instead of chopping up the long bed and modify the frame to have it fit. but that probably means cutting forward of the rear axle. would be a very unique truck.

 

been think if getting an older crew cab pickup as a project as well.
