How often do you replace brake pads and what's your annual mileage?

Recommended Posts

You replace them when they start squeeling or you get pulsing in the brake pedal (stuck caliper warped rotor), It really depends on your driving and what kind of pads you have. 2 years ago I installed new frt rotors and ceramic brake pads. For NYC driving and a 3000 mile trip there is almost no wear. I replaced the rears 5 years ago, and just had to replace the pads and rotors (Stuck caliper and rotors to cheap to pas up) and there was almost no wear on them.

You're supposed to replace them regularly? Lol.... I don't think about them until i hear the squealers, or they start acting funky.

edit: I replaced my rears on my new Lego just this past 2 weeks or so.. they were grinding :-/ P.O. didn't change them ever methinks. My red one had brakes put on when i first got it.. never changed them lol were still at 25% when i got rid of it.

Never really gave it much thought as to how many miles i put on my rigs over the years.

If I'd guess, I'd say somewhere around 15k a year? just in work alone? not counting if i go on special installs/out of state maintenance. then its probably in the neighbrohood of 25k? Sucks really.. they pay a nice /per mile rate but at the expense of putting miles on my car:-\

my old former CRX Sii had to replace the fronts at 187k, that was the first time the indicators scraped the rotor.......yes 0 miles until 187,000 miles, never had to do the rears.........sold the car at 226k and told the new buyers that it might need rear brakes :)

My 94 Turbo Legacy Wagon, had to replace the front pads only at about 145k, not sure if they had been done before. I only use OEM from Subaru (or oem honda) brake pads.....if they go that long from the factory, they are most certainly better materials than the cheapo stores and last longer.

My 92SS had to replace the rear rotors at about 150k

My SVX had to have new rear rotors and pads at about 72k, its a heavy car.

Just did ours today (see my Stealership Alert post) '06 Outback, 75,000 miles, Rears still have 4mm, maybe next year?

Clack, my '87 GL was bought with 130,000 mi on the clock, when I sold it with around 220,000 or so I was still on the same pads and clutch.

Others, I can't remember.
