Maggotboy Posted August 10, 2010 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Hey, Ive had issues with the clutch cable being too loose, tentioned it all the way, then replaced the cable but this didnt fix it. I then pulled the transmission back (thanks to Twitch and General Disorder for their knowledge and thoughts:))to get a look at the clutch fork and it appears OK, I have pulled it out and can see no cracks or stress anywhere on the fork, the throwout bearing appears in good order also. What do you guys suggest is my next step in the fault finding process? Do I need to pull the clutch out, I have a receipt that says it was only installed two years ago, this seems rather young for a clutch to have problems. GeneralDisorder Posted August 10, 2010 Share Posted August 10, 2010 (edited) Sounds like the pressure plate is toast to me or they used the wrong one somehow. I would pull the clutch/flyhweel assembly and inspect everything. Flywheel may have been resurfaced improperly, incorrect parts used, etc. You just don't know till you look at it. And sadly that may not tell *you* much since you haven't seen one before to know what to look for. Clutch's can be really frustrating - different parts, step heights, and such. Getting the right clamping force and the correct feel after it's been screwed up from factory can take some leg-work and sometimes trial/error. bheinen74 Posted August 10, 2010 Share Posted August 10, 2010 GD, yes and no, how would it have worked for 2 years after the install and receipts/docs show it was replaced. if the clutch was replaced 2 years ago and ran good until recently, then i guess its something in the adjustment all fubar'd after my new clutch in my 85 Brat, it took a bit to break it in, then it took some time to get the adjustment right, after a new cable as well. probably the adjustment, beings it worked for 2 years since it was installed. might even be the hill holder cable keeping it from getting adjusted properly...disconnect it til you get the clutch feeling good. then readjust the hill holder Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I didn't see that in this thread, at least. I was sort of guessing that they machined the flywheel to the wrong specs during the replacement. When this guy bought it, he could tell it was too soft, but the PO didn't know any better. It doesn't mean it worked for 2 years, in that case. I was asking how far the transmission was pulled away to see if some measurements of the step could be taken. I could be wrong, though. Maggotboy Posted August 13, 2010 Author Share Posted August 13, 2010 Jacob, We have pulled the transaxle back about 2 inches, this gave us enough room to get the clutch fork out.
