Hey everyone, got a paint question here. I want to paint the rear chrome bumper on my Dakota black. I dont want to have paint start flaking off after a month or two. What is the best way to prep the chrome to paint over? What would the best paint be to use for this? I will be doing it with rattle can of course. Thanks for any info!

Chrome is just a film-ish chemical reaction that goes over the bumper. they dip it in multiple chemicals basically, until it shines. so iirc, you could sand it down a little or completely off so you have a good base to paint on.

Now what year is this Dakota?

If its anything newer it may just be a shiny coating over some plastic.

If that's the case, you'll have to adjust your paint type.
