destey
1995 Legacy, manual trans. My radiator is dripping coolant on the passenger side. I've noticed a wet spot under the car for a little while now but its getting bad so it needs fixing. Around the rubber hose is all dry, but about half way down it is wet. So I pulled the old radiator and tried to put in one that I got at a junkyard (from a 1996 auto) and it doesn't fit. The bottom mounting studs are in a different spot and the fan hole locations are different. So I went on rockauto and checked for my radiator, $97 shipped, but the one they have in the picture is just like the one that doesn't fit (even though it says in the description "w/manual trans"). I also checked a few other sites like this one: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQSubaruQQLegacyQQCSFQQRadiatorQQ19951999QQCSF2619.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&apwidD1AMtOc and they show the same radiator that doesn't fit in my car, but is supposed to according to their site (says 1995-1995: All Submodels; All Engines;). Anyone know what radiator is supposed to go in my 95? TIA!
lmdew
I'd take the old on to a radiator shop and have them match it. Prices are very competive on radiators, so the price should be close. What is the Month your car was made? I'd also take the VIN # along. Most of them I've delt with are all the same, there are some differences on some on how the fans mount. johnceggleston
i find this really odd. a bigger deal than the radiator being different is that they would have had to alter the front chassis? cross member to match. this would be really expensive for subaru. i doubt they know what trans is going in when they make a chassis. check to see if you do have holes in the cross member you can use. maybe both mounting points are there. if yess, either make your fans work or go get the fans off the 96. as for the the picture at the web site, it is not unusual for them to use a generic pic for an item. they may not even sell the "manual" rad since the other will work, if it does. Fairtax4me
i doubt they know what trans is going in when they make a chassis. I don't see why they wouldn't. The chassis is designated a VIN when it is stamped/formed before they even weld it together. Honda used different transmission mount brackets on the frame between manual or auto trans, at least in the early and mid 90s, don't know about 2000 and later models. Some also had holes in the firewall cut out for a clutch master cylinder, while others didn't. Nice thing about Rockauto is if you have a question about a particular part you can call them and ask for clarification and most of the time they can tell you one way or the other if it will fit. I do remember reading of certain models and/or years having different radiators in a thread on here some time ago.
davebugs
I've been bitten by this. I think it's 97's that have the different rad, just like the starter. Has to do with the bottom 2 mounting pegs, perhaps more differences.
johnceggleston
I don't see why they wouldn't. The chassis is designated a VIN when it is stamped/formed before they even weld it together. you're right, it does make sense that they know. but, it does not make sense that there is one chassis for auto and another for manual. it would be more practical to have one chassis that would fit both trans, not either or. but if the was a change in 97 then that might explain it. the build date on his donor car may be 96, but not his model year. idosubaru
try the radiatorbarn.com yet, they seem to have the best prices when i look for subaru radiators? rockauto is notorious for this, i wouldn't order a difficult to match up part like this unless you can confirm the peg spacing or something. gotten parts that don't fit many, many times from rockauto. love their prices but their fitment is terrible. davebugs
try the radiatorbarn.com yet, they seem to have the best prices when i look for subaru radiators?. FYI the only new rad I've ever bought for a Legacy came from there and was wrong. I needed the weird, expensive one. Had to pull one from a running parts car. They were good about taking the wrong one back, but I was still kinda screwed for the car I was working one. I couldn't see how to make the "normal" radiotor's bottom pegs to work where they fit into the rad support.

davebugs
Left me in a bit of a jaqmb but they were good about taking it back. Next time I have a need I'll probably check with them along with others.
destey
I'm sorry guys, i was retarded and upon looking at the radiator again the one on the website is correct. For some reason I thought the pins were in different spots. The one I pulled at the junkyard wasn't the right one, but it was the only one they had. So over the weekend I examined the bad radiator and found it was leaking around the gasket where the plastic end is pressed on. I pried up on all the aluminum tabs , cleaned off the gasket, put in some high temp silicone sealant and used vice grips (a regular one and a large clamp one) to crimp the tabs back on. It still leaked after i put it back together. doh. I see these guys have a radiator for $73 shipped. Anyone order from them before? Seems pretty reasonable, no sense in trying to find another junkyard if they're getting $50-60 used when a new one is $73 shipped http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQSubaruQQLegacyQQCSFQQRadiatorQQ19951999QQCSF2619.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&apwidD1AMtOc

Agreed. I ordered parking brake cables for my 2003 Silverado and they were the wrong ones. Demoralizing when you get halfway through a job and the part isn't correct
destey
I was just about to order the CSF2619, it looks like the frame mounts are the same as my radiator, the fan mounts look the same, everything looks good except the CSF2619 has transmission cooler fittings (my car is a 5spd). Will this radiator work, if I just plug the cooler fittings? here's the radiator http://www.drivewire.com/search/?D=radiator&Ntt=radiator&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Main&PN=4294955991&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=0&Nty=1&VN=4294967261+4294964890+4294964576+4294965878+4294967142&Nr=AND%28universal:0%29&refValue=brand&events=Brand-CSF

Fairtax4me
It's a good idea to keep dirt and moisture out to prevent corrosion but you can get away just fine without plugging the cooler.
