nitsuj80
I am in the process of putting the heads back on my EA-81 and was wondering what size bolt those are? I am wanting to run a die nut over them and clean up the threads. Thanks.

I am wanting to run a die nut over them and clean up the threads. Thanks. I debated the same thing but just took a wire wheel to the threads instead. Cleaned them up super nice and got rid of all the crap that was in them over the years. Then just make sure to oil the threads when you torque the heads on (after you put the head gasket down the studs) and you should be good to go. GeneralDisorder
Soft wire wheel on a bench grinder - absolutely essential part of any shop. You do not want to run a die over the threads - you do not want ANY descrepencies between the die nut and the thread dimentions to cause removal of material. While they may be the same size and thread pitch, there are tollerances to the manufacture of threads that are not taken into account by those two measurements alone. Best that you don't use a die. A thread file would be a better choice (but not better than a wire wheel) as it can be better controled than a die. GD
Crazyeights
Agree. Pulled the studs and wire wheeled them carefully on mine. FSM has info on putting the studs back in.
