Pulling the engine. Motor mount removal question

Recommended Posts

When pulling the engine is it necessary to remove the engine to mount bolts or can I just pull the crossmember bolt and pull the engine mounts out with the engine?

The rearward engine mount bolt seems a bit difficult to access; looks like it's between the crossmember.

Also, whats a good bolt hole to lift from in front that will provide the best balance.

There's a rear lifting eye but nothing in front.

You can just remove the nuts holding the mounts to the crossmember and pull the mounts out with the engine.

You can use the bracket the AC is connected to. I've removed the bracket before and just attached the chain to one of those larger bolts holding that bracket.

Cool...

What about the upper firewall mount. Looks like it's connected to the trans, could I leave it alone since the transmission will be staying in?

to get the engine out, you will need to remove the "dogbone" on top of and at the rear of the engine at the fire wall, since you will need to jack up the front of the trans so the engine mount bolts will clear the cross member.

if it is an auto trans car, DO NOT jack up the trans at the trans oil pan, move the jack forward until it is under the front diff part of the trans-axle. you can damage the trans by placing the jack under the the trans pan.
