Head gasket 2002 outback 2.5 leak

Recommended Posts

No amount of head gasket sealant repair in a bottle will help. It is all a sales marketing ploy and or used by conniving car lots.

Where do you live, if your close to any one of us on the board we may be willing to help in the repairs.

If you have mechanical skills you could do the repairs yourself. We could help you with the procedures and what you will need for parts etc.

I have a HG leak....2002 OUTBACK 2.5

Does anyone have opinions on H.G. Sealant repair fixes and what product you would recommend?

Thank you....

GARY

Try a new head gasket. Sorry to be blunt, but there is NOTHING but a new gasket that will fix a blown HG permanently.

Use the Subaru conditioner. They sell they're own REQUIRED conditioner for this engine. Try a couple bottles of it. It's required with every coolant change on your particular engine.

Also - your engine is within the year range of Subaru's extended headgasket warranty up to 100,000 miles. If you have below that call them immediately.

I would not touch anything else in the parts stores. That stuff is known to clog other things as well.

Internal or external leak?

External, does not have oil that floats in the radiator or overflow after sitting overnight, the oil on the dip stick is normal color, feel and smell with no discoloration or signs of coolant or water. Can not see where the coolant is leaking yet...any suggestions where to look? It is progressively leaking more.

I live in Hyde Park, New York between Albany and New York City...Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you again.

..Any help would be appreciated.

get the coolant additive in there as soon as possible. use two bottles.

you've pretty much already gotten all the help needed for this issue above. reread the comments on subaru's extended warranty and the coolant additive. when was the last time the coolant was changed, has it ever been changed? and was the conditioner used?

they leak between the head and engine block, there's only one seam (per side), look there on the rear or underneath just "inside" the exhaust manifold.

and of course replacement will fix it as well.
