NoahDL88
Try This The EJ transmission is bigger around then the EA series transmissions, even the EA-82 needs to have the tunnel clearanced with a hammer a bit to fit. That said, i've seen an EA-81 wagon with an EJ swap and Auto trans, which is bigger still. so it is do-able. If you lift the Brat you will have no issues. skishop69
You'll have to build a custom trans cross member and shift linkage most likely. The EJs don't have d/r, so you're losing low range. I would imagine the drive line length will have to be modified.
987687
You'd probably be better off swapping in a ea82 dual range 5 speed. You will still have dual range, but get the 5speed. Only thing with this option is you'll need an adapter plate between the ej engine and ea transmission. But shift linkage and driveline will be a lot easier. NoahDL88
If you are not planning on offroad the brat the AWD will make the EJ swapped brat so much more of a pleasure to drive. with the 2wd/4wd the front tires spin out a lot.

LeoneTurbo
I'm in the process of doing the same with my now 82 Wagoin (the 84 was too rotten). When going with the EJ trans (I am) you need to fit the EJ outer cups of the DOJ tranmission side to fit the EA81 axles to the trans. You will also have to lengthen the propshaft, I've been told by about 80 mm but I haven't had the chance to measure yet, the 4-sp EA is still in the car, I hope to remove it by the end of the month.
