wtf? air ride related.

Recommended Posts

so my rear struts wouldnt inflate, so thanks to a good friend i scored some free struts (coil spring) I figured just to make the car drivable for right now id swap out the rears untill i got the fronts and then swap those over too, but now the front is on the ground and i cant get them back up. i just want the thing to drive down the road.

but i will say the 5 min ride home was one HELL of a ride,:lol::eek:

so any ideas

well i plugged them into the old strut and left it in the trunk (after the ride home) i plugged in the sensors too but the compressor wouldn't kick on so i unplugged those and left the airlines plugged in, fronts didn't seem to pick up at all, but it is 0130 here so perhaps i just didn't give it enough time before yelling at the car and going inside lol

you can remove the solenoids from the rear strut so you don't have to leave the entire strut in the trunk.

you can make a fitting to manually inflate the tops of the strut with a standard air hose/tire inflator. i believe the adapters i've seen though were standard threads, not metric, but they still worked.

if you don't feel like tinkering to make that fitting, i would give the air compressor 12 volts and see if it actually works. if it does then open the solenoids for each front strut. once they are filled, just disconnect the solenoid at each strut so it can't open and they aren't likely to deflate.

basically - get the struts filled and completely disconnect them from the system.

they'll hold as long as the bags aren't leaking, oring on the strut line isn't leaking, and the solenoid spring isn't weak.

IDK, I am heading to georgia this morning for some regular front struts, i have the rears on already and i am pleased with how it is sitting although i have no idea what the came out of? but they're adjustable. and the fronts im pulling out of a EA82 4x4 wagon, hopefully it will sit level, if not my air struts are already spoken for so ill take the money from them and get some 2wd xt struts to drop it back down. btw i have no idea what you guys are talking about with this my 2wd XT sat way high in the front. but anyway should have car converted sometime this evening:banana:

well i tried to install the fronts today but they were ungodly long (and adjustable!) so i ordered my 2wd xt struts and should be here tomorrow. and Gary i am definatly keeping that trick in mind, I believe I saw..... hmm what was his name? silver xt has an ej20, anywho saw he did that so i'll have to see once its all said and done. on a side note, When the heck is the XT forum coming back up? i'm terribly upset about this down time:-\

yeah whats up with subaruxt.com....?? ive tried getting on a couple times too..

the fwd xt struts make the xt6 sit very low in the front... i have them on my beater.

on a side note thou... i had 17inch rims/tires that were for an outback sus. i put them on my 6, and they fit the wheel well AWESOME!! raised the cars ground clearance a few inches atleast. looks sweet!! after seeing that they fit im very tempted to finally order a lift for mine like yours gary.

im running stock air suspension, and i get an occasional light rub with them on odd road dips, def not enough to take them off thou...

someone fix subaruxt.com so i can stop hijacking other peoples threads......

I know you are closer to Ga , being in J-ville , but if you happen to be in Daytona beach ,there is an awesome u-pull it on Speedway blvd that always kept me stocked up on cheap soob parts. Man , do I miss that place. Now I have to drive 130 miles to get to a lousy yard!
