stephen115
I have a 1982 brat 4wd and I want to put a 2.2l ej22 in it and was wondering what 5-speed transmission I need to use with the ej22? If I can I would like to keep the 4wd but if it's too much trouble then I can settle for no 4wd. SJ
GeneralDisorder
Search - it's been covered weekly for years. Search for "EA81 5 speed swap" or "EA81 five speed swap". GD
edrach
You might contact bratsarus1; he sells a conversion kit to install the 5 speed d/r transmission in your Brat. I did that with his help/kit to our '84 Brat many years ago. I'm not sure whether it will support the power of an EJ22 motor.
MilesFox
Any of the 5spd 4wd trans will fit the same with the same bellhousing conversion kits. Beware of turbo trans since they have a 25 spline axle, which does not fit for the brat. It is possible to swap out 23 spline axle stubs in a turbo(dual range rx) trans to be compatible with the brat axles. By this route, i would recommend the xt6 trans for regular street driving, having gearing more suited to the ej22 135 hp since the xt6 has 145 hp
