211
2000 OBW 2.5 SOHC I’m still trying to track down the source of a horrible exhaust rattle. The rattle became much worse after I installed a new clutch (engine out, not transmission). Not sure what could have caused the what was a slight rattle to become a horrible one after assembly but it is. I’ve been under the car multiple times tapping wiggling and banging on heat shields and nothing seems loose enough to cause the rattle I’m hearing. My question is, are the Subaru exhaust pipes dual walled by chance? I had an old Honda that was dual walled exhaust and it rattled a bit. I didn’t care about that car like I do my Subaru though so I never got it fixed.
sube101
the header/down pipe is double walled. but the rest isn't but is could just be a heat shield making the rattle
xman
It could also be the catalyst inside the cat converter. On my rally car the cat sometimes breaks loose from rock impacts and rattles like crazy inside the housing. Just happened to my 04 STi recce/ daily driver car also. Rattle goes away with rpms above idle. Something else to think about if you are SURE it's not a heat shield.
Suzam
Yeah I have a 97 Legacy Wagon with a rattle in the down pipe. I swore it was the heat shields until I finally got it on a lift with someone modulating the gas pedal and tracked it down. Only solution I know if is live with it or replace it ($$). sube101
i work at an exhaust manufacturing company, i could probably start building subaru exhausts for fairly cheep. and not restrictive low end crush bent. they would be high flow mandrel bent. and either mild, alumanized, or stainless. this isnt advertisement this it a thought
