987687
People do the swaps from DOHC ej25s to ej22s all the time. So with that in mind, am I correct in thinking that I can run a phase 1 ej22 with an ej25 DOHC harness? Anything I need to swap, or does it just connect right up and work? idosubaru
question is a little confusing. you're saying EJ22's are swapped into EJ25's (which is true) and run off the Ej25 harness (also true). and you're wondering if you can run an EJ22 on an EJ25 harness...which is what you just said? clarifying in case i missed something but i think you answered your own question - yes, should be able to do exactly that if you choose the right motors and all. the DOHC part is confusing you? DOHC/SOHC (comparing EJ25 and EJ22) is meaningless in terms of the electronic compatibility of the swap. still the same crank sensor and cam sensor on one cam. only needs one input regardless if it has 2, 4, 8 or 23 cams. later 99+ EJ's start having different rules of engagement, but i'm assuming this pertains to all 98 and earlier stuff. Olnick
I think they only built that 23 cam for one year, right? :-\

987687
Thanks for the answers. I ended up with a phase2 harness for my ej22, and can only get a DOHC harness for free, so I'm going to pull that then! I'm not certain on the year of any of it, just that it's a solid lifter phase 1 ej22, ad the harness I got with it is definitely a phase2... Hopefully I can get it up and running. johnceggleston
compare the connectors, if they match up then it's easy, maybe. if not you will have wire sorting to do. but the wires are just the link to the ecu, that is what runs the engine. and if the engine does not have the required egr valve, you will get a CEL. now if you are running an independent ecu, well....... 987687
Independent ECU? I don't care to much if I have a resident CEL, I'll probably have one anyway. It's all going in a Loyale, I just posted it here because I knew I'd get more traffic and quicker answers than in the retrofitting section ...
