Interesting find on the EMPI parts catolog

Recommended Posts

I found this under the heading for boot kit:

"Some models may experience overheating of inner boot leading to premature failure. This is mainly due to exhaust system modifications. To solve this problem, use EMPI boot 86-2298-D, which is made of heat resistant silicon material."

Interesting. I don't recall seeing that in the catalog when I looked about 1.5 years ago. I wonder what the tradeoff is. For example, is the heat resistant stuff less flexible or durable or something? Or is the only tradeoff the presumably higher price?

Well its the "new" 2010 catalog, I haven't looked at one in even longer than you. I would imagine the trade off is just price as silicon is pretty durable, but I haven't used them before so it's just a guess.

Tom, I bought those new EMPI axles that we installed on my GL-10 from partsgeek.com and they were complete assemblies. I would bet the silicone is great, I know they are heat resistant as more and more kitchen hardware is being replace by soft silicone. For example, my wife has a silicone muffin pan for baking. I believe they are okay for up to 600 degrees F of continuous exposure!

But finding axles in 25 spline is the hard part.. I guess A1 makes 25 spline axles, but are they good axles?

It's funny as those are the axles that I almost bought, but didn't after doing some more reading as my transmission is not the original. I found that I had to order the 23 splines form my car since I have a non-turbo trans.

You're welcome, it's about time I could help you with something Tom.
