farmwench
Help! Trying to replace vapor separator on '88 DL automatic wagon (trying to get it back on the road after years of sitting). Bought the part through the dealer, but Haynes manuel is no help in actually locating the part on the car. Thought with new filter in hand, I'd recognize it on the car, but no luck. Either I have to remove something to get to the part, or the dealership sold me the wrong part. Haynes says remove interior rear vinyl trim panel on passenger side to get to part; nothing but wheel well underneath that panel. How do I find this thing? Thanks. Hi , NO its where they said, its hides behind a metal pillar there, remove the right rear interior trim panel that goes over the wheel and you will be able to find it, look for the hoses coming from the fuel tank at the bottom and some metal shields that cover it, has about half dozen 10mm bolts and the hose connections to remove. farmwench
Thank you so much ruparts! You're the first person on 2 car forums who's actually known how to get to this thing. Unfortunately, when I exposed the parts the sad truth became clear: Pence Auto (dealership) special ordered and sold me the wrong part . Back to the drawing board so to speak. I appreciate you taking the time to help me.
Cougar
I read about the problem you are having on the Car Talk web site. I think the trouble you are having may be due to a bad fuel pump or possibly a clogged filter under the hood. I had a '88 GL-10 model and there was a filter under the hood near the driver area. Your model may be slightly different though. Does anything under the hood match the part the store sold you? The fuel pumps on these cars do go out after time and can act just like yours does. The engine will run a short time and then die due to a lack of fuel. Edited November 1, 2010 by Cougar
