DODGE *AKA* MITSUBISHI is MORTAL ENEMIES with our cars. Traitors...

OEM subaru only baby!

I put a accel supercoil on my GL and got 0 performance gains, your stocker should be MORE than enough to run many thousands of miles more. It has worked good thus far right?

I provided the link as response to the question, not as an endorsement. :)

In my opinion, a properly performing original ignition system (good coil, wires with intact insulation and resistance in spec, clean plugs properly gapped and not overly worn, etc.) is all that's needed for reliable firing in an unmodified engine. Manufacturers do typically get this kind of thing right. In fact, increased spark voltage raises the chance of insulation breakdown or flashover if other parts aren't also upgraded.

On the other hand, a modified engine might benefit from higher than stock spark voltage. In particular, raising compression requires higher voltage, all other things being equal.

Of course, it's also possible that a poorly maintained engine might run better on a hotter spark, but a good tuneup would likely have the same effect.

This is along the lines that I was thinking. I'm betting people who have done this mod, feel more/better power simply because there were problems with what they had previously (old age tends to do that). If new OE parts had been installed, might the same difference have been noted?

I would assume that people would do the smart thing and do a tune up prior to upgrades.

Again, I say assume

This is Fun! ... Did you know that the First Generation of Legacy that came to Latin America (Late 1988 to 1994) Came Stock with Carburetor and Mitsubish¡t Distribuitor?

Look at post Nº 30 of this Thread:

I can tell you from my short stint as an auto mechanic - I am no fan of mitsi. Everything on every car of every year of every model - ever so slightly different. Hook a wire in to anywhere but the battery = screwed up computer. By the way Westerbeke generators are mitsubishis - $12,000 for a marine genset with a bad cylinder right out of the box. Hyundais and some dodge s run their motors too. Remember the old 2.6s that always lost the main bearings at 150k? wow , somebody got me started...:-\

The Talon and Eclipse AWD turbo things were popular around here for a while. (Oh snapz dis jointz is awd yo'z!)

Don't see them anywhere anymore... wonder why...

I won't rag on those too much though. Subaru 2.5's like to throw rods about as bad as DSMs chew up thrust bearings.

Not to get too far offtopic though, has anyone here done the Neon coil mod?
