Flat Towing & My clicking Axle

Recommended Posts

My 82 Brat has a towbar and spent a good part of its life being pulled around behind an RV. The front left axle is starting to click, sounds like it wants to be replaced. I'm going to be moving across the country soon and I want to tow the Brat behind the rental truck, but I'd like to avoid paying to use a dolly when I've got a wonderful tow bar. Would flat towing in neutral on the manual transmission destroy the already damaged axle? I plan on replacing it when I get settled in at the new place, but I'd like to flat tow it without worry of the old one breaking loose and causing damage.

That sounds like a long drive.

Probobly would NOT be a good idea. It could come apart whenever it feels like it...

I would spend the 50 bucks for insurance

I was thinking it should be okay without power being applied to it. I think I'll order an axle and if I can get it changed out before I go, that would be fine too. I hear good things about EMPI axles. Partsgeek seems to be out at the moment (I called) any other good places to get them?
