WASHroad
Hey, so here is what I got going in the planning stage. Great running EA18(70K) in a 89 GL Wagon. 5 Speed D/R. Would like to drop in an OB1 1992 EJ22 with (210K), I have heard it run and can pick up the complete car for $100. Wrecked front end. So looking at all the swap threads I haven't seen any reports of MPG. I have put on 12K over 6 months and get 25-30. I know everyone says the cars drive great with these swaps, and I would really like to have a little HP's to get around with. Is the torque band of the EJ22 make the cars feel that much better. If so you would think they should get some nice MGP. Can anyone give me some real live results. I run an OME size tire 206/16 x14 which is a 23.7" Dia. Would most likey stay with that tire. Thanks
Numbchux
depending how you drive it, an OBD I EJ22 and PT4WD trans will probably yield 22-32 mpg. an OBD II ECU runs a bit more effeciently, so with that, you could probably hit almost 35mpg. I would recommend a slightly taller tire if/when you replace them. the torque band of the 2.2 works much better with slightly taller tires. WASHroad
Thanks, I have passed on the EJ22. It ran and sounded solid, but very dirty from oil neglect. Plus I am having a hard time pulling a sweet running EA82 with only 70K on it and put in a 210K mileage EJ22. Once again thanks for the info, I think I will keep the search on for an OBD II. Off hand what year was the change, and what models were they found in.
idosubaru
Off hand what year was the change, and what models were they found in.1996 and up EJ22. 1995 should be as well.
Numbchux
yep, '95 was OBD II as well for the 2.2s. But the wiring and ECUs are unique to that year. pretty hard to find diagrams, and replacement parts should you need them.

All the other stuff electronics are the same.....it's just the configuration at the ECU.
