IACV dirty.

light greay round thing under where the coil pack connector is, also under some PCV vacuum line. hard to get to but not too bad.

seafoam might help.

check all vacuum lines too, you could have a leaking line somewhere.

well thanks for the reply- i definately do not have a vac leak, i have a guage and monitor it like a hawk (part of my hypermiliage techniques)

i havnt seafoamed it...might try that

is there an IAC adjustment?

also i think the air fuel mix is off, its the screw on top of the throttle body.

what are teh proper setting procedures?

What is the vacuum reading on the gauge? Should be up in the 19-20" range at idle.

AFAIK the ECU makes all changes to fuel/air mixture, there should be no adjustment on the throttle body, though I could be wrong about the older models.

There is an adjustment for the IAC, but you need a select monitor to do it.

I wouldn't mess with that any.

To clean the IAC, just remove the idle air hose (the large one that goes to the IAC) from the intake tube, block the throttle open so the engine runs about 2000 rpm, and pour seafoam or some intake system cleaner (a little at a time) down the hose into the IAC. About half a can should do.

I had the EXACT same symptoms on my '91 legacy. It haunted me for a few months. No code's showing either. Searched and searched for a vac leak, cleaned this cleaned that. No luck. After a few failed attempts at deciphering ohm resistance in a few sensors, I just replaced everything. I started with the IACV. That didn't do squat.

In the end, it was the Throttle Position Sensor. I switched it out with a JY sensor, it runs perfect now.
