OBD I Code reader or scanner available?

I recently converted my 87 Vanagon camper to Subaru EJ 22 engine with ECU from USA Legacy. Is there an OBD I scanner or code reader available to read the proprietary Subaru codes from this ECU.

If its from a First gen Legacy 90-94 then it will be OBD-I. There is no scan tool for OBD-I Subarus. you will have to plug in the "Read" connectors and count the CEL flashes.

They are self-diagnostic for "codes" via the test connectors in the harness - but there is also a software program that can interface with the ECU via the Subaru Select Monitor port on the OBD-I cars - check over on www.legacycentral.org for a current address to the download page for it. You need to make a special serial port adaptor cable (using a Metra radio harness adaptor of all things ), and then run the software on a laptop, etc to read the real-time report data from the ECU.

You can read parameters via the Subaru select monitor port, besides just the basic diagnostic codes from the check engine light. A member from the Legacycentral BBS has made a program to hookup to the select monitor port.
