DanteC
Hello everyone, I just signed up to share my project, and hopefully get some tips along the way. My friend rolled his 96' legacy wagon a few weeks back, and since he only had liability on it he gave it to me. The roof is smashed and glass is broken, but the drive train is solid and it runs great. Its got a 5spd, and good clutch, 185k. My plans are to simply sawzall the hell out of the fenders to fit some 235/75 r15 bfg trail makers that i got for free. I also did a 2" strut lift. I'm a decent welder, and can generally fabricate half decent parts, i have access to a machine shop in school, so i should hopefully be able to do everything cheap. Besides cutting the fenders out to fit the tires, i also plan on making a nice brush guard, a good skid plate system, snorkel possibly, lincoln locker in the rear, and possibly re-gear for the bigger tires if possible. Any pointers or ideas would be great, im sure i'll have quite a few questions once i start to get deeper into this project.

Dont forget to check out the FAQ for those common "how do I" questions, And also, since you are building a gen2 legacy wagon project- don't miss out on my "waterwagon3-SJR lift thread" in the offroad section, it shows all the hows and whats I have done to get my wagon all lifted, mud-tired and dual-ranged up! I saw your thread, looks great. I have my first question, is there any way to gear these suby diff's down? Or the trannys? i'd like to gear it way down so i can run big tires without loosing low end, because theres trails that ill want to crawl on. Well, like I just said- the DUAL RANGE tranny, meaning low range, for "crawling" is what I did to mine- it's the easiest way, although it only gets you a 1.2:1 reduction as far as I know... The other methods are slightly more involved, like changing the ring and pinion gear sets in the dual range (which is a 3.9) to the 4.1 or 4.44 gears, out of the newer subarus.... I have not ventured into that method, but I hear it's possible with enough time, money and tools Best way to find the info, read up all the threads in the offroad or subaru mods section on what other people are building on their rigs
