Tailgate Lift Supports?

I'm sure they are fine. I've used the Sach's strut's before. I have a set on my EA81 hatch right now and they are great - the hatch strut's have a MUCH higher rate of failure than the wagon struts - mine have been on for a couple years and I have no complaints. They say that sell Sach's and that's probably what you will get.

 

I think their feedback rating probably says it all - near 30,000 feedback and 99.9% positive. Seems like a straightforward purchase - what are you worried about? They will probably last 10 to 15 years just like the originals and for $50 that seems a pretty fair trade to me.

I'm sure they are fine too, I replaced mine with "Armstrong" brand which Parts hut "Bumper To Bumper" stocks. No issues.

 

I hate old struts in cold weather, standing under your gate and then "Slam!" Lol.

I guess I was just a little paranoid of the whole ebay thing but I am more paranoid of getting hit in the head by that damn tailgate again... It's hard to pick things out of the shopping cart and hold the tailgate up with your head especially when it's 0 degrees out. I'll get some new struts on order.

ebay isn't a bad place, I have never not gotten what I bought, and the items were always as described. ebay is better now days then it was 5 years ago.

I just used a 1x2 chunk of pine when mine didn't work. Never got hit in the head .

I got one of those Sachs units a couple of years ago.

 

It worked fine until I opened the tailgate fast at -30 deg. C. There was gas hissing and thin oil all over the place. It was a good thing I had the snow shovel to prop the gate open.

 

I put the original back on. It works OK in the summer, and I use a 2x2 in the winter.

At Autozone they have Mighty Lift and Sachs for $20.98 and $28.99 respectively. Anything wrong with the Mighty Lift ones? Any input?

 

If i can save the 15 bucks over that Ebay one Its worth it for the Mighty Lift. I have one thats bad so its a 50/50 chance of it slamming my head every time i open it! Haha. Occasionally it works fine, sometimes it comes right down.

Any new strut will be better then what you have now, all components are built to an O.E spec, so I'm sure the "Mighty Lift" brand will be of the same quality.

Don't ask the dealer for pricing if you are that cheap!

 

$20 to $30 each is about what they go for. That's really not unreasonable considering what they are.
