bgambino
i have 215/70/15's on my 96 OB wagon would like to use the 225/60/16's from a 02 parts car I got as they are nice yokohamas fit? clearance issues? speedo difference? the overall tread width is not much more and interestingly the overall inflated diameter is not much bigger than I thought it would be...maybe 1/2-3/4" (due I guess to the lower profile tire) thanks guys

John Great tire calculator...thanks! looks like tire clearance should be ok...I am assuming the subaru rims from 96 compared to 02 will bolt up but will try it maybe today and see
jdemaris
I am assuming the subaru rims from 96 compared to 02 will bolt up but will try it maybe today and see Try and see, because often specs don't reflect reality. I wanted to stick 15" steel wheels and snow tires from my 95 Impreza, on to my 2002 Impreza Outack (that has aluminum 16" wheels). Every spec sheet I read said they would not fit. Ends up they fit just fine. Just less clearance around the brake calipers, but not enough to effect anything.
Xanadu62
You should be fine. The shocks on the legos and outbacks are all the same and will fit a 17" rim with 205/50s. Barely. Ricearu had a set on his lego and the rubbed a little. You can't go any larger though because the spring seat on the strut itself will contact the tire. Sti struts are spaced different, so you can go 18" with rubberbands for tires on those.
Suzam
Should fit fine, I have 205/55-16's on WRX wheels mounted on a 97 Legacy L wagon. They were also on a 95 Legacy sedan. Never had fit problems on either one.
Gloyale
You should be fine. The shocks on the legos and outbacks are all the same and will fit a 17" rim with 205/50s.. This isn't really true. Outback struts are longer, and have more room from Knuckle to spring perch. Largest you can go on Legacy struts is about 225/55/16 or 225/60/15 You can fit a 235/75/15 or 235/65/16 tire on Outback struts.
Olnick
Found this fascinating tire & wheel size calculator that allows you to compare cutaway drawings of various combinations. Just type in the pertinent numbers, including rim width and offset, and you get a side-by-side visual representation of the differences. http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp
