wipers stop working

Turned my wipers on with a bunch of snow on the windshield...got out and assisted them and they started moving. As I was clearing the snow off they stopped moving. I can hear the motor cycle on but they don't move. What have I broken and how can I fix it? tia.

the wiper base is probably slipping on the splinned drive stud. pop off the round plastic caps at the base of the wiper arms and see if you can snug up the nuts any. fairly common in the snow months.

nope, everything was nice and tight there.

Could be the linkage on the wiper motor itself if neither wiper moves.

Model and year?

 

If it's what I think it is - the wiper transmission is probably borked. They run about $65 or so IIRC. Pretty simple to change out.

that was my thought GD. Its a 95 legacy. Any insight as to where I can find a how to? Do I swap out the whole motor or is the transmission separate? car-part.com only lists a motor, no transmission.

Last one I got was at the dealer. Try NASIOC for discussion on this - it's a common failure on the Imps.
