Idasho
Hey guys. Id like to lift the front of my '84 GL a bit, to increase the front approach angle, and level it out with the rear. Ive tried the adjustable struts it has, and currently have it at full height, but the camber is all wrong. So Im interested in a small lift to gain the height I want, without the camber issues. Questions though.... *Assuming Im looking at 1.5" to 2" worth of lift, will I be okay with the factory struts, or is there any reason to swap them out? *Ive heard about EA81 axle problems with lifts? Care to enlighten me on the problems? Id like to avoid ANY decrease in reliability of this rig. *With 2" or less strut lift blocks, do I need to lift anything else in the front? *with 2" blocks, what angle should the mounts be offset? I seem to remember a simple formula per inch of lift, but I now cannot find it.... *any other concerns/comments?? Thanks for any help
monstaru
you could just go to the FAQ in the OFFROAD forum and read for a bit.......then ask questions.

Idasho
Thanks stephen115 for the link. That helps. you could just go to the FAQ in the OFFROAD forum and read for a bit.......then ask questions. Wow. Hows this for a response.... I have read the FAQ. And not ONE of my questions are answered in the FAQ. Mmmk? So how about you just pipe down, or answer some questions, if even just for the sake of conversation. Is this how you treat everyone with questions?? Why do you even bother responding?
Idasho
Heres another question for ya. Another one that isnt addressed in your offroad FAQ I have strut mounts like this..... just two bolts, instead of the three bolt mounts I see on the forum. Do the lifting methods change? Thanks for any help.

You just need to read around and search. Regardless of lift height, you keep your stock strut/spring combination. Again, regardless of lift height, you are going to have increased strain on your axles. This is due to the more extreme angle they are put at when lifted. But unless you are wheeling it hard, then there is no reason they will break or reduce the reliability of the car. My EA82 has a 2" lift and I have not had any axle issues and I daily drive it. With 2" lift blocks, you need nothing else in the front. For 2" the blocks are 15* Lets try to keep the drama out, and not bash other members. And remember to search. Thanks for any help. I have never owned or really looked at a EA81, so I could be wrong. But I believe all EA81's have the 2-bolt top hats. EA82's have the 3-bolt. So no, the lifting methods do not change.
mcbrat
to level the front, you'll need to do a full 2" lift for all the front components...(engine crossmember, struts, steering linkage, radius rod/transcrossmember blocks. just adding lift on the struts is the same thing you tried with the adjustments, and you saw the resulting camber.... GeneralDisorder
just adding lift on the struts is the same thing you tried with the adjustments, and you saw the resulting camber.... +1. Do it right or have horrible camber. Eats tires like crazy when you build them like that. You need to build camber-adjusted strut tops since the mounts are not horizontal. Idasho
Thanks for the responses guys. With the blocks though, do I still need to lift the rest of the front end even if the blocks are built with an offset? If the tops of the struts are dropped down, and pushed inboard, the camber should be fine, right? Or am I missing something stupid obvious? Also, when doing this, will I run into any clearance issues in the strut towers with the mounts and coils?
mcbrat
Thanks for the responses guys. With the blocks though, do I still need to lift the rest of the front end even if the blocks are built with an offset? yes, lift all the front sections. If the tops of the struts are dropped down, and pushed inboard, the camber should be fine, right? Or am I missing something stupid obvious? if you don't drop the engine crossmember as well, it will in effect pull in the bottom as you push the strut down, still resulting in camber issues... with the added benefit of ripping apart axles.... Also, when doing this, will I run into any clearance issues in the strut towers with the mounts and coils? No. see above.
