spaz
Well here is the problem i am having, in my town the roads are black ice slick, so ive been driving around town with 4x4 in. While going down the road at 30 35 my front end threw the sterring wheel it is all over the road. Not real bad but bad enough to think something is wrong. Cause in other 4x4 vehicles ive owned they did not do that. This car has been wrecked I am sure of it cause when u look at from a distance it looks like its smilling with a crocked smile (lol). What do u think is the problem or should I ignore cause it could be $$. Thanks Spaz
zyewdall
I think that it has nothing to do with being in 4wd. My cars ('89 wagon... same as yours) handles very nice in 4wd in the road -- binds if you turn, of course, but only on dry pavement. Check your alighnment, and for anything loose underneath there... ball joints, struts, CV's, etc...
Deener
Check your tie rods...
DBG
If you're pretty sure the car has been wrecked, and it only wants to "get away" from you in 4X, it is likely one or both of the rear trailing arm assemblies got bent up. You'll see if they are pretty readily just by looking under the back of the car. The quickest and cheapest short term fix is keeping it slow, or just driving around front-wheel only. I've rarely found a reason to engage 4X mode with most of the snow around here unless I've been having fun off the roads.... Or I got into a ditch by sliding off the roads. Heh. The longer term fix is replace the rear of the vehicle. DBG
