Speedwagon
I can't find it. I've read through threads that indicate it is the likely problem (wipers don't work on INT, and never park themselves on low or high). But I am at a loss for locating thing box in my '87 Brat. Can some of you give me more guidance to locate this thing?
bratsrus1
Hi This is Jerry, that thing is under the dash on the left hand side of the steering column it is about 1 inch by 3 inch and round silver in color. Thanks Jerry
Speedwagon
Thanks for that, as once I found and replaced that relay, my intermittent works again! However, the wipers still won't park themselves. I checked the contacts inside the motor, and everything appears to be ok. How would I test if the motor itself is causing the issues, or if it is something else?
TomRhere
Could be either the wiper switch, wiring harness, or the motor. With the key "ON", and wiper switch "OFF", you should have battery voltage on one of the wires at the connector for the wiper motor. Sorry, I can't say what color that wire is. That wire connects to a cam switch inside the motor, which turns off the power at the park position. If either, the contacts in the wiper switch, wiring to the motor connector, or the cam switch in the motor are bad, the wipers will stop at whatever position they are at when you turn off the switch. I'll have to go probe the wires and see what I get. I have an EA82 parts car that has working wipers, so I'll have to probe that one too and see which wire color is supposed to have 12v to compare. Speedwagon
Tested both cars, and both cars have 12V on the same color wire at the motor. Since the EA82 parks, that tells me the motor on the EA81 is bad. I swapped the bases, and repined the EA82 motor, and now I have a working EA82 wiper motor on my Brat, that parks, and has intermittent.
TomRhere
Glad to hear you got it fixed. Good to know that the EA82 motor can be swapped in, with a tad bit of work.
