skishop69 Posted December 7, 2010 Share Posted December 7, 2010 Yes and no. Some things will be the same, some will not. You will need both diagrams to install it correctly, both harness' and the ECU. If you don't have the harness from the EA82T engine, you're going to have to modify yours. Also be aware you are opening a can of worms with the EA82T. Turbo issues, overheating issues and head cracking issues (if they aren't already). Don't get me wrong, my XT had the same engine and it was fun, but after all the hassels (most caused by my driving style), I've gone to the EJ22 swap. ruparts Posted December 7, 2010 Share Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) but i think it might be stupid one. will the wiring from a 1989 Subaru car (dont know exact model) work with my EA82T motor im putting in my 1987 Subaru GL wagon? oh, btw, Subaru car is a 1.8 fuel injected. hi, if your 87 wagon (did not have a turbo motor in it originally), you are going to need wiring from a turbo vehicle , 4-dr or wagon , to make a ea82T run. spfi wiring will not run a mpfi system so there is your main problem, then you need a turbo ecm, you will need a turbo front suspension crossmember to allow the exhaust crossover pipe to fit, a turbo downpipe, rerout a lot of hoses and vac lines , and egr pipes. basically you have to rewire the front half of the vehicle,, as the other reply said ,, (you opening a huge can of worms) , unless your original wagon was a turbo vehicle to start with. and small rewards for your efforts, and there will likely be more problems down the road cause the ea82t has a bad reputation that has been earned honestly. soobie_newbie67 Posted December 7, 2010 Author Share Posted December 7, 2010 hi, if your 87 wagon (did not have a turbo motor in it originally), you are going to need wiring from a turbo vehicle , 4-dr or wagon , to make a ea82T run. spfi wiring will not run a mpfi system so there is your main problem, then you need a turbo ecm, you will need a turbo front suspension crossmember to allow the exhaust crossover pipe to fit, a turbo downpipe, rerout a lot of hoses and vac lines , and egr pipes. basically you have to rewire the front half of the vehicle,. thank you, thats what i needed to know. i am already aware of what everone has said about this engine and have already gotten the advice i needed to make this engine good (the way it should have been from the factory.) after tearing the motor apart the only thing i found wrong was a bad head gasket. so i got lucky with this one. plus, the turbo is in perfect condition, i already have the cross member, and have paid for the car im taking the wiring from. what you said is exactly what i wanted to know. what happened was, the junkyard car i got the motor from, someone took the starter out of it and cut a few wires, not wanting to screw with them i was in search of a different vehicle for the wiring. i guess i'll just go ahead and fix the wires that got cut. they arent that hard to fix i just didnt want to screw with em.
