nickolai
Hi, I'm rebuilding my ea81 and am at the stage of buying the bearings and rings. I would like to save as much $$$ as possible but don't want to use junk parts either. What do you guys think of Clevite bearings? Cause they're on ebay for like $12. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks. hatchsub
Clevite makes good bearings. I have them in my small block chevy lol. In fact they are really the only bearing that my machine shop uses.
NorthWet
.... What do you guys think of Clevite bearings? Cause they're on ebay for like $12. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks. Clevite has been around quite awhile. I did a quick search on eBay and only found undersized bearings. I bring this up just in case you overlooked sizing. nickolai
Thanks for the input. I've asked a couple people locally too and it sounds like the Clevite bearings are pretty decent. As for sizes, undersize is what I need. The crankshaft was pretty scored so I had it turned down to .25mm main, and .50mm rod. I was just wary of finding them so cheap when they're like $46 on Rockauto.com.

NorthWet
Rod bearings are listed as for 1400 and 1600 (EA61? and EA71) engines, with no mention of working on 1800 EA81s. Might want to check into this. Main bearings say they are oversize rather than undersize. Simply a nomenclature issue, or are these for resized bearing saddles? howpow
Hi NorthWet. I'm looking for oversize bearings for resized bearing saddles, do you happen to know if they are available.
NorthWet
Hi NorthWet. I'm looking for oversize bearings for resized bearing saddles, do you happen to know if they are available. I have been following your thread. I will respond there to prevent hijacking this thread.

Might want to check into this. I asked the seller if he had bearings for my engine and he said these will fit an ea81 also. I have seen other listings saying they will fit anywhere from ea61 to ea82. Main bearings say they are oversize rather than undersize. Simply a nomenclature issue, or are these for resized bearing saddles? Are you saying there is a difference between undersize/oversize? I asked locally and was told there is not. Undersize is referring to the size of the crankshaft, while oversize refers to if the block has been bored larger? Also, regardless of these details, do these look like quality parts?
NorthWet
I reread the rod bearing posting, and the vendor did clarify that these would be for a machined crankshaft (making them "undersized"). Probably right on the main bearings being the same for EA61/EA71 and EA81. (Got to love parts commonality!) Rod bearings are clevite, main bearings are indeterminate but probably decent, and rings are from a common maker/distributor so should also be decent. Idasho
Are you saying there is a difference between undersize/oversize? Of course there is a difference. Undersized is needed when the crank shaft surface is machined. Oversized is needed when the connecting rod journals are machined. If neither has been machined, you need standards. I always use a bit of emery cloth to polish the surfaces prior to installing new bearings too. And can I ask why you are so hung up on buying motor parts like bearings off of ebay?? Rockauto has these clevite connecting rod and main bearings available. It might cost a bit more but you know you are getting the correct parts. Rod bearings are clevite, main bearings are indeterminate but probably decent, and rings are from a common maker/distributor so should also be decent. Thanks for the help. I just purchased all three items. I get what I get I guess.

Just thought I would save some money if they are the same brand part. Rarely am I unsatisfied with ebay items.

TomRhere
EA81-EA82-ER27 share the same main/rod bearings. Same rods and piston rings also.
