Recommended Posts

this is the only current US auction, but it's just in the list, no telling on if they actually have one...

Well, for those people who want -or Need- to Change the Steering Wheel on those Good Ol' Subies, let me tell you that I've seen some old-school subies with Toyota (Tercel?) Steering Wheels... and I Bet that they're not using adapters. Who's gonna use an adapter to swap those kind of Steering wheels, anyway?

Let me Share a couple of Photos:

Topic being Rarest part, how about rear window louvers for 80-84 hardtop, 80-89 hatchback, and 1980-84 wagons. I have been looking since I have owned my cars. A set for the coupe and the hatchback. Were o were could they be !

They were always called louvers when me and my friends talked about them. It was A popular accessory in the 80's.

The white hatchback has exactly what I am referring to. They are black and cover the back window.http://http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/literature/brochures/1985-b.jpg

That is A killer ride! It has the louvers i'm looking for. I want A set for my hatch as well. Just like the ones on the white hatch in the picture I posted. I bet your friends car is really loaded with factory options. I have found that the "hardtop" cars that were made up to 1984 usually had A lot of optonal equipment installed on them. It has been my experience to find the hardtops rarer to be plain. The only plain one I have seen is on this website forsale.http://http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=137614

It seems that the people that have them are using them. I like the way they look and they are so rare. Somewhere , someone is cleaning out their garage and holding A brand new set that they never installed when they had A Subby and throwing them away !

They exist for the xt6 as well I believe, seems to me that the EZcheez (yellow xt6 owned by kingbobdole) has those.

This set here http://www.indysworld.com/vehicles/1984-hatch-maroon/louvers-n-decals.jpg I made by combining parts from 2 different sets to match the window dimensions. some place was doing a close-out on eBay of them some years back... I miss that hatch....

Killer hatch! Those louvers look awesome! What were the louvers for originally and how did you combine them?

they are factory, so...from a subaru

no, the ones on the maroon hatch were not factory or dealer... I have no idea what they were from, and neither did the seller who had hundreds of sets. he was just selling them based off the height/width measurements. I found 2 that were close to the right sizes and the same construction, but each had different dimensions that fit properly. one had the correct height and top of window measurement, and the other had the correct bottom of window measurement. then I just put the crossbars in from each set that made it an even transition from top to bottom. The only thing I had to mod on the car, was to go with a different wiper arm that was closer to the window, for clearance....
